Born in and raised in Tel Aviv, Israel; Bruria Tamir was always fond of art as a means to unleash her creative energy. Yet, it was only a decade ago when she finally made the leap to pursue her passion as an artisan; by giving up her dedicated 20-year career as an economic auditor at a State Comptroller office. It was a wise decision, as Bruria’s inherent ability to design jewelry has made her name known worldwide. With already two major degrees in economics and business administration from the University of Jerusalem, Bruria is also educated in jewelry studies by the Center for Technological Studies in Jerusalem, where she now resides. She then furthered her education in metalsmithing and ancient jewelry techniques at the Jewelry Arts Institute in New York.
Bruria Tamir has a very distinct style, fusing both ancient methods with modern techniques. Her metal of preference is pure hypoallergenic silver, sterling silver and blends with 18 or 22 karat gold. Bruria is moved by the ability of metals to alter their shapes with the application of heat, something she is known for doing in her jewelry-making techniques. Also an avid traveler, among Bruria’s journeys she has gathered many semiprecious stones to enhance her handcrafted jewelry collections. Among them include; tourmalines and turquoise from India and the US, ancient glass from Nigeria and Bali, sapphires and citron from Brazil, cultured pearls from Hong Kong, and more.
